Every Blue Cave tour, compared

Seven operators sell almost the same day from Split. The differences hide in the detail: the cave ticket, the Komiža stop, food on board, and where you meet the boat.

Every tour on this page leaves Split by speedboat, visits the Blue Cave first and stops for lunch in Hvar town. Six of the seven cap the group at 12. On paper they look identical. They aren't.

We compared the seven full-day tours on price, what that price covers, the route, food, the meeting point and the small print, straight from each operator's listing. These are the details that change your day.

The quick answer

Cheapest: Valiant from $89. Cave ticket in the price: Day Trips from $120. Food and drinks on board: Salty Experience. A long Pakleni swim: Toto Travel. A whole boat for your group: Gray Line's private option. Longest day with a sunset run home: Booker Travel.

How do the Blue Cave tour routes differ?

Five tours stop in Komiža; Salty Experience and Booker Travel skip it. The time at Budikovac, Stiniva and the Pakleni islands varies a lot.

Stop times from each listing. "Photo" means you look from the boat; "swim" means you get in.

Komiža is the Mamma Mia harbour and a coffee stop. Skipping it, as Salty Experience does, buys a quiet swim on the way home. Valiant, Speed Line and Day Trips add a 15-minute stop at the old Stupišće rocket base on Vis.

Komiža on Vis: a stop on five of the seven tours.

Which Blue Cave tour includes the cave ticket?

Day Trips, from $120, with hotel pickup too. Booker Travel sells an option with tickets; everyone else charges EUR 18 to 24 in cash.

Two listings are misleading here. Speed Line puts the ticket under Includes but says it's payable in cash on the boat, and Valiant lists it under Includes while its itinerary marks the cave as an extra fee. Bring cash for both unless your confirmation says otherwise. Rates and dates are in the entrance fee guide.

Which Blue Cave tour is best for families?

Toto Travel, for its hour of swimming in the Pakleni islands. Day Trips and Gray Line take the youngest children, from age 3.

Minimum ages from the listings: Day Trips and Gray Line from 3, Valiant and Toto Travel from 4, Booker Travel from 5. Salty Experience excludes under-2s, and under-4s on some options. Speed Line rules out pregnant travellers and back problems but sets no age. The cave ticket is free under 6 and half price from 6 to 12 on every tour.

Kids care about swimming, not about Stupišće. Toto Travel gives about an hour in the Pakleni islands, the longest swim stop on any of these tours apart from Budikovac. It's back in Split around 6 p.m.

Which Blue Cave tour has food on board?

Salty Experience lists food and drinks on board. Day Trips and Toto Travel list food and drink too; on the others, lunch in Hvar is on you.

  • Food and drinks included: Salty Experience, Day Trips and Toto Travel. Toto doesn't detail what.
  • Water and drinks: Speed Line lists water, food and beverages; Gray Line a bottle of water.
  • Nothing: Booker Travel asks you to bring a packed lunch. Valiant leaves lunch in Hvar to you.

Even with food on board, most groups still eat in Hvar town. Budget for it.

Food and drinks on board, no Komiža stop and a quiet cove to finish the day.

Can you book a private Blue Cave boat from Split?

Yes. Gray Line sells a private option for 1 to 12 people, and Toto Travel has a private option with its own pickup point.

A private boat makes sense for a group of six or more, or a family that wants to set the pace. You still queue at Mezuporat like everyone else and pay the cave ticket in cash, unless your option says otherwise. Gray Line's check-in is 30 minutes before departure, and from 1 April to 15 May and in October its boats leave at 8:00.
