The Blue Cave in October 2026

The summer crowds are gone, the cave ticket is back to EUR 18 and the sea is still warm enough to swim. The catch is the wind, and the days are getting short.

October is the last month of the Blue Cave season. Speedboats from Split still run the full five-island day, the cave ticket has dropped to the low-season rate, and you queue at Mezuporat with a fraction of the August crowd.

This post covers what we know as of 8 October 2026: what is still running, what the ticket costs, how often the cave closes this late in the year, and how the shorter days change the trip.

The quick answer

The Blue Cave is open in October 2026 on calm days, with the adult ticket at EUR 18 in cash (EUR 9 for children 6 to 12) until the season ends on 31 October. Split tours still run, but southerly wind closes the cave more often than in summer, so book a tour with free cancellation and a good backup route. The sea is around 20°C, mornings on the boat are cold, and the clocks go back on 25 October.

Is the Blue Cave open in October 2026?

Yes, until 31 October, whenever the sea at the entrance is calm. From November to March there are no scheduled visits.

The 2026 ticket calendar printed on the tour listings runs from 1 April to 31 October, and the low-season rate covers the whole of October. hvar.com puts it plainly for November to April: no scheduled boats, treat the cave as closed.

Open does not mean guaranteed. The cave has a low entrance, about 1.5 m high, and the boat crew at Mezuporat decide each morning whether the small wooden tenders can get in. In October that call goes against you more often than in July. More on that below.

How much is the Blue Cave ticket in October?

EUR 18 for adults and EUR 9 for children 6 to 12, cash only. Under 6 go free.

The cheaper rate came back on 11 September. You pay it in euros at the ticket hut in Mezuporat, or to the crew on the way, depending on the operator. There is no card machine and no cash machine on Bisevo, so bring small notes from Split.

Most tour prices do not include it. The Day Trips tour is the exception: the cave ticket and hotel pickup are in the price. Speed Line lists the ticket under its inclusions but collects it in cash on the boat, and Valiant's listing contradicts itself, so check at booking. Our cave ticket guide goes through every operator.

Which Blue Cave tours from Split still run in October?

The full-day speedboat tours keep running to the end of the month. Some start earlier: Gray Line leaves at 8:00 in October.

Guests are still posting October 2026 reviews for the Valiant five-island tour and the Speed Line tour, both meeting at the Prokurative steps on Trg Republike. One guest from the United Kingdom, in October 2026, called it "Amazing day, favourite day of our holiday!!"

Gray Line moves its start to 8:00 for 1 April to 15 May and for October, to fit the day into the shorter light. Expect the other operators to send exact times on WhatsApp the day before, as they do all season. If a date shows as sold out or missing, it is usually wind, not the calendar.

Our pick for October is the cheapest of the flagship days. Small boat, 12 people at most, and a crew that knows the alternatives when the cave is shut.

How often does the Blue Cave close in October?

Often enough to plan around. Southerly jugo wind and swell close the entrance, and October is one of the worst months for it, along with May.

hvar.com calls cancellations in May and October common enough to plan around, and rare in July. The decision is taken on Bisevo, sometimes with an hour's notice, and your skipper cannot overrule it.

It is happening this month. A guest from France whose October 2026 trip could not get into the cave wrote: "Luka offered us several interesting and fantastic alternatives." Another from Taiwan, whose boat skipped the cave the same month, still wrote that "the entire tour was still fantastic! Highly recommend this tour."

If the cave is the only reason you are going, keep two possible dates free and check the forecast for southerly wind two days out. Every tour here cancels free up to 24 hours before. Our closures and best time guide explains the jugo in more detail.

What is the weather like for a Blue Cave day in October?

Mild: highs around 19 to 21°C in Split and a sea at about 20°C. The speedboat ride in the morning is cold, and the light fades early.

Average October figures for Split put the daytime high at 19 to 21°C, the sea at 20°C and roughly 7 to 12 days with some rain (weather2travel, holiday-weather). Warm enough to swim at Budikovac. At 30 knots across open sea at 8:00, it does not feel warm at all. Bring a windbreaker and long sleeves.

The days shrink fast. Sunset in Split is around 18:20 in the second week of October, and on 25 October the clocks go back an hour, which pulls it to before 17:00 by the end of the month. A 10-hour day that leaves at 8:00 comes home in the dusk. Morning light is fine for the cave itself: it glows best around 11:00 to 12:00, and most boats reach it first.

Is October a good month for the Blue Cave?

Yes, if your dates are flexible. Short queues and the cheap ticket beat August, but the closure risk is real.

The queue at Mezuporat can reach 90 minutes in late August. In October it is short, Hvar town is half asleep and the sea is calm on the good days. We would take a calm October day over a crowded August one.

The trade is certainty. If you have one fixed day in Split and the forecast shows jugo, consider the half-day Blue Lagoon trip instead, which stays in sheltered water near Trogir. Not the same place, as our Blue Cave or Blue Lagoon guide explains. Planning for next year? Read the 2027 season post.
